I thought red eyes were caused by 1: Drinking too much 2: Flash bulbs striking contact lenses 3: Nocturnal creatures see only red spectrum which looks really ghostly for them. So who is more scared? You or them? 4: Pure evil Since, late at night, alone, in the dark, you don't know if a devil, a cat, or drunk is in your room, you have every right to be afraid...
